What Quickline Offers

Key takeaways

  • Quickline is a regional provider that builds its own network in parts of rural Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. It is not available elsewhere, and not every address in those areas is covered.
  • It sells full fibre (FTTP) from 200Mbps up to 2.3Gbps, and fixed wireless where its fibre has not reached.
  • Quickline advertises no mid-contract price rises.
  • Its home phone service, Talk+, is an optional extra that does not work in a power cut and does not support telecare alarms.

Quickline is an alternative network provider, or altnet. Instead of renting lines from Openreach, it builds and runs its own network, mostly in villages and small towns.

Because Quickline only sells over its own network, you can only order it if your exact address is on that network. Neighbouring homes in the same village can differ.

Fixed wireless uses a small receiver on an outside wall, pointed at a nearby Quickline transmitter. It is offered where Quickline's fibre has not reached and is slower than its full fibre. The deals we compare are full fibre only.

Good to know: A speed above 1Gbps only helps if your devices and home network can use it.

Broadband Types and Speeds

Quickline quotes average download speeds. What you get depends on your line and, for fixed wireless, on the signal at your home.

Who Quickline May Suit

It may suit you if

Rural households in its area that want faster full fibre than the copper or part fibre lines often found in the countryside, or that want a monthly price that stays the same for the whole contract.

It may be less suitable if

  • You live outside its network. Most UK addresses cannot get Quickline.
  • You rely on a landline, a telecare alarm or a home phone that must work in a power cut.
  • You had Quickline service at the address in the past 12 months, or the property is a holiday home, as current offers exclude these.

Router, Installation, Fees and Contracts

Router

Quickline says most customers receive a Zyxel EX5601 router, set up by an engineer on installation day. Equipment must be returned when you leave, and charges may apply if it is not.

Installation

Standard full fibre installation is free for eligible new residential customers, subject to a survey. Non-standard installations are priced by survey. Fixed wireless installation costs £49.99.

Phone line

Quickline broadband does not need a phone line. Talk+, its optional home phone service, runs through your router and works with your existing handset. You can ask to transfer your number, subject to confirmation. Talk+ has 30 days' notice to cancel, subject to any minimum term in your contract.

Check: Talk+ does not support telecare or personal alarms, or fax machines, and does not work in a power cut. If you use an alarm, arrange an alternative with your alarm provider before switching, and keep a charged mobile for 999 calls.

Contract and price rises

Check the minimum term and charges on your contract summary. Quickline advertises no mid-contract price rises. After the minimum term, its terms say service continues on a rolling basis at its then-current standard rates, excluding expired discounts.

Service promise

If Quickline does not deliver the service set out in your contract summary, you can tell it about the problem. If it is not fixed within 30 days, you can leave without a penalty.

Leaving early

Early exit charges are set out in Quickline's current Standard Charges Policy. Check it before you sign.

Offer conditions

Current offers exclude households that had Quickline service in the previous 12 months, addresses with a pending installation, holiday homes and households with outstanding debt to a Quickline group company. Any switching reward is conditional, full fibre only and has its own claim deadlines.

Quickline FAQs

Why can my neighbour get Quickline but I cannot?

Quickline only sells over its own network, which is built street by street and sometimes property by property. Your address has to be connected or within reach of that network.

Will my Quickline price go up during the contract?

Quickline advertises no mid-contract rises. After the minimum term, service continues at its then-current standard rates.

Is fixed wireless the same as full fibre?

No. Fixed wireless sends broadband by radio from a nearby mast to a receiver on your home. Its packages are slower, and its speed can depend on the signal at your property.

Can I keep my landline number with Quickline?

If you take Talk+, you can ask Quickline to transfer your existing number, subject to confirmation.
